Since our family changed in 2021, I stopped sending Christmas cards and have chosen New Year’s cards instead … an acknowledgement that we can only go forward, not looking back. This year, life seems to be moving too quickly for me to do either.
Things are changing so fast. Some hard changes, mostly good ones. All tender. But what stays the same is our love for each other & YOU (you know who you are!).
All I can say for 2025 is that Love is the only thing that endures. Life is a struggle for everyone, in some way. Let people be. (Especially your kids). Ease up. Don’t insist on your own way all the time. Be curious, not judgmental (as the great philosopher Ted Lasso says). Don’t hold on to your anger, self-righteousness and fear with a death grip (what an apt phrase that is!) There’s so much more to life.
In 2025, let’s approach the beginning with the end in mind. If it happens that your season with someone comes to an end this year, what do you want to remain? Paul said the greatest of these is love. Why not love?
Happy New Year, love the Rountrees
Erica,
Your post reminds me of a prayer that Paul prayed for the Philippians. I especially treasure the way that J. B. Phillips translated Paul's prayer: "My prayer for you is that you may have still more love - a love that is full of knowledge and wise insight. I want you to be able always to recognize the highest and the best, and to live sincere and blameless lives until the day of Christ. I want to see your lives full of true goodness, produced by the power that Jesus Christ gives you to the praise and glory of God." That is my prayer for those whom I love for 2025. Thanks for continuing to use your gift for the benefit of others.
Allen Scott
Thanks Erica.
